The COBB Front Mount Intercooler Kit (Silver) is engineered to deliver increased airflow and improved charge air cooling for the VB-generation Subaru WRX. Compared to the factory top-mount intercooler, this front-mount system offers greater cooling capacity while maintaining responsive throttle behavior and consistent power delivery.

At the core of the system is a vertical-flow intercooler design. The Garrett core measures 24″ x 8″ x 3.5″ and routes airflow from bottom to top, allowing for efficient packaging and optimized piping layout. Formed aluminum end tanks are tapered to distribute pressure evenly across the core, maximizing cooling efficiency. Each end tank features precision-machined billet aluminum 2.5″ inlet and outlet connections, with the assembly finished in a durable silver powder coat.

COBB’s structural “Thrust Tunnels” flank the intercooler, securing the core while directing airflow through the intercooler and the rest of the vehicle’s cooling stack. The passenger-side tunnel includes provisions for relocating the factory ambient temperature sensor, and both tunnels are finished in wrinkle black powder coat for a clean, OEM-plus appearance.

Because the factory crash bar must be removed for installation, the kit includes a dedicated bumper support beam constructed from 1/8″ steel plate and 1.5″ DOM tubing. Finished in matte black powder coat, the beam also features an integrated tow hook mount on the passenger side in the factory location.

Charge piping consists of mandrel-bent 2″ and 2.5″ tubing finished in wrinkle black powder coat. The hot-side pipe integrates with the factory-style turbocharger outlet via a machined clip, expanding from 2″ to 2.5″ before entering the intercooler. The cold-side piping maintains a consistent 2.5″ diameter to a custom billet throttle body adapter. All piping routes neatly behind the passenger-side bumper cover to minimize the flow path from turbocharger to throttle body.

For proper fitment, this kit requires the COBB Intake Tube and Redline Power Scoop. Compatibility with other intake systems is not guaranteed. No tuning changes are required, as the intercooler is compatible with the factory calibration and COBB Off-The-Shelf maps.
