The Clutch Masters Chromoly Steel Lightweight Flywheel is a direct replacement flywheel designed for the 2004–2021 Subaru STI EJ257 6-speed. At 16 lbs, it is significantly lighter than the OEM cast iron flywheel, reducing rotational mass for faster throttle response and improved rev-matching without introducing the gear rattle that comes with ultra-light aluminum flywheels.
Made from chromoly steel with a replaceable high carbon steel friction surface, this flywheel is built to handle sustained high-torque applications while remaining street-friendly. It is the recommended choice over the aluminum version for daily driven or street-focused STI builds where some bottom-end drivability needs to be preserved.
This flywheel is SFI certified and compatible with all Clutch Masters clutch kits as well as OEM and performance clutch assemblies.
Important Note: Clutch Masters recommends the chromoly steel flywheel for street applications. The aluminum flywheel is recommended for race-only use. Flywheel bolts are not included and must be sourced separately.

What is the difference between the steel and aluminum flywheel?
The steel flywheel weighs 16 lbs and is recommended for street and performance street applications. The aluminum flywheel weighs 11 lbs and is recommended for race-only use. The steel version produces less gear rattle and preserves more bottom-end torque, making it the better choice for daily driven STI builds.
Will this work with my current clutch kit?
Yes. This flywheel is compatible with all Clutch Masters clutch kits as well as OEM and other performance clutch assemblies.
Are flywheel bolts included?
No. Flywheel bolts are not included and must be sourced separately.
Does this flywheel need to be resurfaced?
No. This is a new flywheel with a fresh friction surface. If the friction surface wears over time, it is replaceable without replacing the entire flywheel.
Is professional installation recommended?
Yes. Flywheel installation requires proper torque specs and balancing checks. Professional installation is strongly recommended.
